The Kansas City Royals officially announced the proposed site for the new Kauffman Stadium downtown, as well as renderings for what the new home of the Royals could look like.

Voters still have to extend the 3/8th-cent sales tax on April 2nd to help fund the new stadium, though voters now know that plans are to build the facility in the Crossroads District downtown.

Here's what the proposal looks like:

KC Royals Reveal Plans for New Kauffman Stadium in Crossroads District Downtown

The new stadium would be built in the former Kansas City Star building, and renderings appear to also install a new public outdoor area between the stadium and T-Mobile Center.

This would put the Royals alongside the emerging Crossroads District as well as Power and Light, giving downtown Kansas City an exciting invigoration of life while continuing the progress being achieved with the street car expansion and new airport.

Fans may be concerned about parking, and I'm sure those concerns will be addressed fairly or not in the coming days. During the press conference, Royals' officials said that no new lots would be constructed, though currently existing ones will be better utilized.

It's worth noting that the stadium proposal puts it within a few miles of the legendary Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, allowing locals and visitors alike to experience the rich history of the area while enjoying a baseball game.

After significant debate about locations ranging from North Kansas City to Independence to the East Village, the Royals have centered in on the Crossroads District. Kansas City residents know how special and unique the Crossroads District is, and it'll be on city leaders moving forward to ensure the area doesn't lose its charm and affordability.

That being said, the idea of connecting the district to the main part of downtown makes the city theoretically feel more vibrant and involved. I'm excited about this, and I'm anxious to see the rest of the plans as the next few weeks unfold.
