Kareem Hunt Makes First Comments on Return to Chiefs
By Cem Yolbulan
The Kansas City Chiefs didn't waste any time following Isiah Pacheco's devastating injury and brought in Kareem Hunt to provide depth at the running back position. With both Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire sidelined for the foreseeable future, the Chiefs desperately needed more playmaking from their rushers. Rookie Carson Steele and new addition Samaje Perine weren't a formidable enough duo for the Chiefs in their three-peat quest.
Bringing not only a familiar face but also a popular figure like Kareem Hunt will provide the necessary jolt to the fanbase and add dynamism to the field. The former Pro Bowler couldn't contain his excitement after the announcement and shared a video message on social media.
NFL News: Kareem Hunt Shares First Message As A Chief
The video starts with the tag "run it back, turbo" and contains highlight reels of Hunt from his Chiefs days.
Hunt was a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and had an incredible rookie season in Kansas City, putting up 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 455 yards and three scores in the passing game.
He was on his way to an even better production in his second season before a videotape surfaced of Hunt assaulting a woman. He was released by the Chiefs in November 2018. NFL launched an investigation and placed Hunt on the Commissioner's Exempt list before suspending him for the first eight games of the 2019 season.
Hunt went on to play the next five seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He was never able to replicate the impact he had in his first two NFL seasons with the Chiefs.
Now, at age 29, Hunt returns to where it all started. Considering the status of the Chiefs' running back rotation, he will likely get a chance to get on the field sooner than later.
