Kansas Gets Massive News on Dajuan Harris Jr.'s Future With Jayhawks
By Joe Summers
The Kansas Jayhawks received a huge piece of news on Tuesday night, when Bill Self announced during Senior Night speeches following the win over Kansas State that point guard Dajuan Harris would return for his final year of eligibility next season.
Kansas throttled the Wildcats 90-68 before Self made the announcement in front of a frenzied crowd. Harris is considered the best true point guard in the country, a steady hand offensively, and the reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
While the Jayhawks turn to the final game of the regular season, next year's squad already looks like one of the most dangerous in the country.
Dajuan Harris Will Return to Kansas Jayhawks in 2024-25
Harris, who is fifth all-time in assists in Kansas basketball history and could find himself as high as third by year's end, is averaging 8. 5 points, 6.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game for the Jayhawks.
He was the starting point guard on the championship team two years ago and will ultimately go down as one of the most decorated and memorable players in recent Kansas history. Originally from Columbia, MO, Harris will wind up a four-year starter and one of Self's most experienced players.
Kevin McCullar Jr. will go to the NBA Draft, though Hunter Dickinson, KJ Adams and Johnny Furphy could all return alongside Harris. With another strong recruiting class highlighted by big man Flory Bidunga, the Jayhawks will once again be among the preseason favorites to win the NCAA Tournament.
For now, we can celebrate Harris and his impact on the program. Kansas will close its regular season on the road against Houston on Saturday then get set for the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City. Following the impressive performance on Senior Night, this Jayhawks team might be more dangerous than people realize.
