The Jayhawks received a bad piece of injury news prior to Saturday night's Big 12 showdown against the Baylor Bears, as star G Kevin McCullar Jr. will reportedly not play due to injury.

That puts an already-thin Kansas team in a difficult position, though they did dominate Oklahoma State less than two weeks out without McCullar Jr. in the lineup.

It's not clear who will start in his place yet, though freshman ElMarko Jackson did against the Cowboys and scored 10 points. Even still, losing McCullar Jr. against a tough opponent like Baylor is a much different story.

KU Injury News: Kevin McCullar Jr. Out vs. Baylor

McCullar, a James Naismith Award contender for the top player in college basketball, is averaging 19.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game on 47.2% shooting, leading the team in scoring while being its best defender.

Just 3-3 in their last six games, it's been a tough stretch for the Jayhawks and they just placed a hard-fought battle against Kansas State on the road. They're at home today, though Baylor has three straight wins.

In a game with huge importance for the Big 12 Conference race, players like Jackson, fellow freshman Johnny Furphy, steady leader Dajuan Harris and standout big man Hunter Dickinson will have to step up.

Kansas is still favored by 5.5 points as of this writing, here's hoping they can get it done.
