Jerry Jones Makes Bizarre Comparison Between Him and Patrick Mahomes
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs are enjoying a day off on Thursday after the first few days of a grueling training camp but that isn't stopping Jerry Jones from making a wildly ridiculous comparison between himself and Patrick Mahomes.
Jones has never been known for intelligent thoughts, though this latest clip make take the cake. When asked about Dak Prescott's ongoing contract negotiations, which Jones and the Cowboys have fumbled to a fireable degree, he decided to evoke the three-time Super Bowl MVP's name.
I'd say it's as goofy as it sounds, though Jones somehow managed to make it even worse.
Jerry Jones Bizarrely Compares Himself to Patrick Mahomes for Reasons Unknown
Do your best to follow the nonexistent logic in Jones' strange diatribe. None of it makes any sense whatsoever.
"We are so involved in trying to see what we are with our situations," began Jones, before strangely talking about how he'd run an option at quarterback and sprint to the sidelines without making a decision. A quarterback option hinges on the idea of leveraging defenders against the sideline or open field to theoretically pitch back to a running back, so running to the sideline defeats the entire purpose of the play.
Aside from that, Jones couldn't help but compare himself to Mahomes in ways that no one can explain.
Saying he's waiting to make up his mind on the Prescott contract, Jones said, "Does that sound like Mahomes to you?"
Mahomes does frequently wait until the last moment to unfurl a pass or nifty run, though he's got a keen understanding of options and knows Jones' strategy would fail. He also signed his 10-year contract early to let the team have extra space in the salary cap to keep stars, while Jones has repeatedly chose to push Prescott's deal off until the last minute, raising the price and limiting his hand.
By most measures, the Cowboys' front office has fumbled this offseason to a dramatic degree. Bringing Mahomes up only further proves that point, and it's obvious at this point that Jerry Jones has no business making on-field decisions for an NFL team.
