Former Missouri Tigers basketball star Jontay Porter has reportedly received a lifetime ban from the NBA following an investigation into his gambling activites.

The brother of Michael Porter Jr., Jontay was accused of conspiring with prominent sports bettors to give confidential information regarding his injury status. DraftKings noted unusual activity from bettors taking the unders on player props involving Jontay. In multiple situations, Jontay exited games early and cashed his unders.

Following the investigation, it appears the NBA had enough evidence that Porter was involved with the scheme and he is now ineligible to participate in NBA activities.

Missouri Tigers News: Jontay Porter Given Lifetime NBA Ban

Porter played just one season for Missouri back in 2017-18. He averaged 9.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game before joining the NBA as an undrafted free agent.

He played for the Memphis Grizzles and joined the Toronto Raptors this season, averaging 13.8 minutes per game. This was an opportunity for the NBA to send a message. With the rising prominence of sports betting, there is growing concern that the integrity of the game could be compromised.

Porter becomes the first NBA player to receive a lifetime ban due to gambling. While some in the NFL have received suspensions for betting on other teams, Porter is the first major example since the rise of sports betting in the last decade of someone actively participating in fixing games.

He has not made an official statement, but his days as an NBA player are over.
