Kansas State Wildcats redshirt sophomore WR Sterling Lockett, the brother of school legend Tyler Lockett, is poised for a substantial role in the 2024 season after appearing in only two games last year.

Sterling was the 10th-best player in Kansas coming out of high school after a 1,000-yard season his senior year, hoping to follow in his brother's footsteps to ultimately become one of the nation's best receivers.

He's projected to be the backup slot receiver and starting punt returner, though his performances throughout early practices indicate Sterling could become an important player for these Wildcats with College Football Playoff aspirations.

Before becoming a three-time All-Pro in the NFL, Tyler compiled 3,902 yards from scrimmage and 29 TDs and handily leads Kansas State all-time in receiving yards.

If Sterling can become even a fraction of the player Tyler was, the Wildcats might have found another future star. An adept route-runner with keen return skills, Sterling has an opportunity to lock down significant snaps.

Ranked 18th in the AP Top 25 poll with the second-best odds (+400) to win the Big 12 at FanDuel Sportsbook, Kansas State should once again rank among the best teams in the country.

The Lockett family is virtually royalty in Manhattan, with the brothers' father Kevin leading the program in all-time receiving yards before Tyler broke the record. Sterling is the next in line of an illustrious family, so fans should be thrilled to finally see him on the field.

With the season right around the corner, the future looks extremely bright not only for the Locketts, but for the Wildcats as a whole.
