Former Chiefs RB La'Mical Perine was reportedly cut by the Packers on Tuesday, ending his time with Green Bay just one week into the 2024-25 season.

Perine was let go by Kansas City following the meteoric summer rise of undrafted free agent Carson Steele, with players like Deneric Prince earning practice squad gigs instead. The Packers snatched him up and have dealt with injuries at the running back position, though apparently didn't see enough to keep Perine around moving forward.

The ex-Florida standout could be a popular target and at the very least, should make someone's practice squad soon.

Perine dressed for five games with the Chiefs in 2023, carrying the ball 22 times for 77 yards while catching three of five targets for an addition 33 yards. Originally a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Jets, he's been trying to find a consistent home though hasn't yet stuck for long on a roster.

He was a star as a Gator, scoring 30 total TDs with 3,159 yards from scrimmage during his four-year collegiate career. Perine is an impressive pass-catcher with strong physicality to break tackles, so there could reasonably be a place for him in the NFL.

While Chiefs fans wondered aloud who would be the third running back, Perine was frequently thrown out as an option. Things didn't work out in Kansas City, but perhaps he could return as a practice squad addition should Clyde Edwards-Helaire's absence go longer than expected.

Either way, here's hoping Perine finds his next NFL opportunity sooner rather than later.
