The Chiefs officially re-signed former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire to a one-year deal to help support Isiah Pacheco in the backfield. Could his return potentially forecast Jerick McKinnon coming back as well?

McKinnon, who became a hero in the 2022 season with nine receiving TDs, is an active free agent near the end of his career. He battled injuries this year but still had a critical catch late in the Super Bowl.

His familiarity with the offense would provide a boost, so it's well within the realm of possibility that Brett Veach retains him for one final go.

Chiefs Rumors: Could KC Re-Sign RB Jerick McKinnon?

Despite his age and injury issues, McKinnon can still make a positive impact in limited playing time. Kansas City trusted him enough to keep him on the field to help win two straight Super Bowls and I think he's got another year left of valuable production.

He had only 242 yards from scrimmage this year but still scored five TDs. McKinnon is a great pass protector and trusted target for Patrick Mahomes, so why not bring him back for a three-peat?

Brett Veach has clearly prioritized bringing the band back and keeping the Chiefs together. Continuity and consistency matter and McKinnon certainly helps in those regards.

Given the relatively weak market for McKinnon's services, he's an inexpensive player that we know can contribute to a winner. At this stage in free agency, that's all you can ask for.
