Chiefs' Week 1 Opponent Officially Revealed for 2024-25 Season
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs' Week 1 opponent for the upcoming season was officially revealed Monday morning, as Kansas City will host the Baltimore Ravens in an AFC Championship game rematch.
These two Super Bowl hopefuls will square off on Thursday, September 5th, at 7:20 PM CST at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City will unveil its Super Bowl banner in a pregame ceremony with a pair of two-time MVP quarterbacks going to battle.
It was expected that Chiefs vs. Ravens would be a primetime game, though it's a bit of a surprise to see that contest as the Week 1 matchup.
Chiefs News: Kansas City Hosts Baltimore Ravens in Week 1
The Chiefs beat the Ravens in Baltimore 17-10 to make their fourth Super Bowl in five seasons. Patrick Mahomes completed 30 of 39 passes for 241 yards and a TD while Isiah Pacheco added 24 carries for 68 yards and a score himself.
Travis Kelce turned back the clock with 11 catches for 116 yards and a TD, though the defense was the story of the game. L'Jarius Sneed made a spectacular play by forcing a Zay Flowers fumble at the one-yard line to preserve a two-score lead and Kansas City's defense held the Ravens to just three points after the first quarter.
Lamar Jackson struggled throughout the contest, completing 20 of 37 passes while taking four sacks. Both teams will look slightly different in the new year, though the Chiefs kept every major contributor except for Sneed.
These are the two betting favorites to win the AFC at FanDuel Sportsbook, with the Chiefs sitting at +370 and the Ravens at +490. The NFL is starting the season with a bang and we'll get to see Kansas City try to defend their AFC title against perhaps the most worthy contender right from the bat.
Including the postseason, the Chiefs are 5-1 in their last six games against the Ravens.
The full NFL schedule will officially be released on Wednesday, though we'll update you as matchups are revealed until then.
