Chiefs Take Care of Big Task Prior to 2024 Training Camp
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs are preparing for their 14th straight training camp at Missouri Western State in St. Joseph, Missouri, getting underway on July 21 as the organization builds toward a potential three-peat.
Kansas City's equipment staff checked a major task off the 'to-do list' on Wednesday, loading up a series of trucks with everything the organization could need at camp.
Equipment Director Allen Wright, who has been with the Chiefs for over 40 years, knows this is the first big step toward officially starting the 2024-25 season.

To ensure they're as prepared as possible, Wright explained, "We live by a mantra that not having something is not an option. So, we take way more than what we need. All the players and coaches need to do is drive up there. We have everything else for you. You can take your pillow up there if you want, but we'll have that for you, too."
Expectations and technology have changed significantly since Wright first started with the franchise. Today, every piece of on-field equipment is scanned and then analyzed to ensure "optimal" player safety.
"The program itself has grown, too," continued Wright. "In 1989, we had 11 total coaches. I think this year we have almost 30. With that comes another set of everything – a rain suit, shoes, underwear, socks – everything. As for my group, there used to be only two of us. Now, there's seven of us, and we bring 10 interns. Everything has grown quite a bit."
St. Joseph weather at the end of July is notoriously hot, muggy, and correspondingly brutal. Wright isn't concerned about that though, noting, "I've waited my whole life to be this good, so it never gets old."
We're one step and one day closer to the glorious return of Chiefs football. Based on the way the team is preparing, it looks like Kansas City is ready to roll in hopes of making NFL history.
