Chiefs Starter Already Dreaming of Signing Elsewhere in Free Agency
By Joe Summers
Chiefs' LT Donovan Smith is an unrestricted free agent next year and while it already seemed like a foregone conclusion that he wouldn't be with the team following this season, he's apparently already dreaming of another location.
Kansas City drafted Wanya Morris in the third round out of Oklahoma to serve as a tackle of the future alongside Jawaan Taylor, but Smith is still the incumbent starter.
He'll help protect Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl, though apparently wants to guard Aaron Rodgers' blindside in 2024.
Donovan Smith Wants to Play for New York Jets
Smith has generally been solid this year despite the claims from Nick Bosa that he "holds a lot."
He has an opportunity to win a Super Bowl ring, and you can't blame a person for dreaming of one day playing for his hometown team. After all, Kansas City celebrated the drafting of Felix Anudike-Uzomah partially because he was a hometown kid.
We'll see what comes of free agency, though Brett Veach has a lot of difficult decisions to make and it seems likely Smith will be a cap casualty given the team already has a replacement for him in-house.
For now, there's a game to win. Here's hoping we can celebrate Smith's contributions at a parade next week.
