The Chiefs made a shocking signing on Monday with just one day left until they must trim their roster from 90 players to 53, reuniting with Super Bowl-winning WR JuJu Smith-Schuster according to Jordan Shultz.

Smith-Schuster was recently cut by the New England Patriots after concerns about his health, but Kansas City obviously felt comfortable enough to bring him on board. Given the intense positional battle going on between Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney, Justyn Ross, and Nikko Remigio, Smith-Schuster's signing is a massive surprise at this point in the season.

Just two years removed from leading the Chiefs' wideouts in receiving yards, Smith-Schuster now hopes to rebuild his value and win his second personal Super Bowl.

Chiefs News: KC Signs JuJu Smith-Schuster Ahead of Tuesday's Roster Deadline

While last year was a mess for Smith-Schuster, he was extremely effective in 2022 with Kansas City. He caught 78 passes for 933 yards and three TDs that year and proved effective in the playoffs, hauling in seven passes for 53 yards in the Super Bowl win over the Eagles.

Knee injuries zapped Smith-Schuster's effectiveness last year, limiting him to 29 receptions for 260 yards and one score in only 11 games.

This acquisition has major implications for the rest of the team. Justyn Ross now feels like a likely cut, as does Kadarius Toney. Skyy Moore and Nikko Remigio's contributions on special teams could give each a path to the team, though everything just became significantly more complicated.

There are also the potential implications for Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown. Rice and Smith-Schuster played a similar role in the offense, so perhaps this means the organization thinks a suspension is coming in 2024 after all.

Nonetheless, expect this to be the first domino in what should be a hectic week.
