Chiefs Shockingly Lose Out on Star Free Agent Pass Rusher
By Joe Summers
In a stunning turn of events, the Kansas City Chiefs' potential reunion with star pass rusher Frank Clark appears over.
Pending a physical, the Chiefs' all-time postseason leader in sacks is signing with the Seattle Seahawks.
After reports that Clark intended to reunite with the franchise he won two Super Bowls with, he's now decided to return to the city that drafted him.
Frank Clark Set to Sign With Seahawks Over Chiefs
Clark originally signed a one-year deal with the Broncos in the offseason after being let go by the Chiefs. He appeared in only one game before negotiating a release last week.
Expectations around the league were that Clark would sign with Kansas City, to the point Clark even posted on social media that he was flying to town. We haven't heard much since then and suddenly, Clark appears set to join Seattle.
This news will surely come as a blow to Chris Jones, who was publicly campaigning for his old friend to come back and help one of the league's best pass rushes.
Whether the Chiefs decided not to offer Clark a contract is unknown, so it's unclear if the decision was made by the organization or Clark's team.
Clark recorded 23.5 sacks over four seasons under Andy Reid, adding a franchise-record 10.5 in the playoffs en route to two championships. It was exciting to imagine Clark and Jones dominating offensive lines again alongside the developing George Karlaftis and emerging Charles Omenihu.
All things considered, it's a disappointing development for Chiefs Kingdom. With Mecole Hardman returning and making an impact in Week 7 against the Chargers, fans were excited to "get the band back together" as Kansas City seeks its third Super Bowl win in the last five years.
The Chiefs are still in great shape, but this certainly hurts.
