Week 4: Kansas City Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers

Sunday, September 29

The Kansas City Chiefs play their first division game of the 2024 season in the final week of September, and it's a road trip to face off against the new-look Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers, very uncharacteristically, opened up the checkbook this offseason to make a very high-profile head coach hire when they pulled Jim Harbaugh away from the Michigan Wolverines program and lured him back to the NFL.

Harbaugh has long had an affinity for Chargers QB Justin Herbert, and after flirting with the idea of coming back to the NFL for quite some time, he finally took the plunge after getting a National Championship as head coach at Michigan.

The Chargers haven't had this kind of upgrade in the head coach department since I can remember, and having Harbaugh pulling all the strings with Herbert as his quarterback could finally be the recipe for success for a franchise that is known for epic collapses and head-scratching gaffes. The Chiefs certainly can't be thrilled about Harbaugh joining the division, but ultimately, it's just the Chargers.

Right?

The Chiefs should be well-positioned, even going on the road, to win this matchup. I don't think Kansas City will sweep the division this year and playing in Los Angeles could be one of their tougher matchups in the AFC West, but I still look at this game as one of the easier ones on paper when you look at Kansas City's September schedule. If you had to pencil any one of these games in as a victory, it would be this one, wouldn't it?

I think the Chiefs take a hard-fought defensive battle with a big late drive from Patrick Mahomes in this one.

Prediction: Chiefs win 23-19
