Chiefs Rumors: Willie Gay Jr. Reveals Concerning Thoughts on KC Future
By Joe Summers
It seems Willie Gay Jr. knows he won't be back next season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Brett Veach faces a lot of roster decisions this offseason, and Gay Jr. took to X.com (formerly known as Twitter) to express his disappointment that he might have played his last game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Given the Chiefs are in the midst of a playoff run, this is certainly peculiar timing, but you have to give Gay Jr. credit for being honest.
Willie Gay Jr. Tweets He Won't Be Back in 2024
For full disclosure, I was reluctant to write about this because it's a new Twitter account, though it's listed on the Chiefs' list of official player accounts and several reputable reporters have confirmed it's Gay Jr.'s. I'm thus inclined to believe it's a legitimate tweet.
Assuming it is, this is both refreshingly honest and a bit disappointing for a player who has played the best football of his career this season.
Gay Jr. stepped in admirably for Nick Bolton when the latter was injured, compiling 58 tackles with three forced fumbles, an interception and a fumble recovery. The Chiefs have a lot of work to do with the salary cap, and it's looked likely all year long that the former second-round pick would be a casualty of that fact.
Of course, he could still have one more game at Arrowhead Stadium if the Chiefs defeat the Bills and the Texans beat the Ravens. I'm hopeful Gay Jr. gets that opportunity to hear the crowd one more time.
