Chiefs Rookie Clarifies Raiders Fandom After Landing in Kansas City
By Joe Summers
Chiefs' fourth-round rookie Jaden Hicks is one of the most exciting picks from this 2024 draft class. The Washington State product should make an early impact in Steve Spagnuolo's scheme, though he's been incentivized to root against Kansas City, sort of.
Originally from Las Vegas, Hicks told reporters during media availability following rookie minicamp. The Raiders now play in Vegas, so he had to clarify that he's not fully representative of his home town.
After all, Kansas City is undefeated at Allegiant Stadium, the Raiders' new home that also served as the location of this most recent Super Bowl win.
Chiefs' Rookie Jaden Hicks Clarifies He's Not a Raiders Fan Despite Vegas Ties
Hicks explained that "No, I wasn’t a fan of the Raiders, so you guys don’t have to worry about that.” He continues, “We’re all Kansas City Chiefs now; it’s pretty cool.”
Widely considered to be a second or third-round draft pick, Hicks falling to the fourth proved to be opportunistic for both the Chiefs and player. He'll now join the NFL's best defense gunning for a third straight Super Bowl, while Kansas City gets fantastic value on a guy who could become a critical part of the secondary.
His size, 6'2" and 211 LBs, combined with his tremendous versatility make Hicks a natural fit for the team. He finished 2023 with 64 tackles, 34 stops, three sacks, and two interceptions, the kind of stat line that shows the various ways he can impact a game.
The Chiefs should once again have an elite defense and Hicks will help. Good thing he's not a Raiders fan, though.
