Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media on Friday and revealed a bizarre plan at left tackle for Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris against the Falcons on Sunday Night Football in Week 3.

He told reporters that both players will rotate throughout the contest, a strange decision given the typical continuity that benefits offensive lines. Suamataia struggled against Trey Hendrickson and the Bengals in Week 2 but is considered the long-term solution at the position, so why rotate him unless you're scared?

If you are scared, there's a fair question about why Reid would play him at all instead of just starting Morris and rolling with him.

Andy Reid Says Chiefs Will Rotate Left Tackles in Week 3

Each player committed crucial penalties late against the Bengals, which is just one of several reasons the decision has been difficult for the coaching staff this week. Protecting Patrick Mahomes' blindside is of the utmost importance and it seems the coaches trust neither player to do so.

That's a major problem. Left tackle has been an issue for Kansas City nearly every year of Mahomes' career. Orlando Brown Jr. and Donovan Smith both drew ire from fans for various reasons, but Suamataia was supposed to be the saving grace.

He has massive potential, though it's clear he needs some development before he's ready to reach his ceiling. If that's the case, Morris should be the starter. He filled in for Smith for four games late in 2023 and may be the more dependable player right now.

It's a strange situation all around. We'll see how the snaps go on Sunday as this may be the most interesting subplot going into Week 3.
