The Kansas City Chiefs have been focused on keeping their back-to-back Super Bowl-winning roster together this offseason. And they have done a good job doing so so far since free agency started on Monday. Now, the focus shifts to making additions to further bolster the roster for a third straight Super Bowl victory.

One of the primary goals for the Chiefs' free agency is strengthening the receiver corps. There is an expectation that there will be a development on that front soon.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the leading candidate to sign with the Chiefs is free agent WR Darnell Mooney, who was a fifth-round pick for the Chicago Bears in 2020 and spent four years there.

Chiefs Rumors: WR Darnell Mooney is Leading Free Agent Target

Darnell Mooney hasn't quite lived up to the promise he initially showed in the first two seasons of his career. His production steadily declined over the last two years as he finished 2023 with 31 catches, 414 yards, and one touchdown.

However, the connection between the Tulane product and Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy makes Mooney an interesting target.

Nagy was Mooney's first head coach in the NFL and got the best production out of him during his Bears tenure. In 2021 under Nagy, Mooney finished with 81 receptions, 1,055 yards, and four touchdowns.

Bringing Mooney in could be a low-risk, high-upside type of play as he likely wouldn't break the bank for Kansas City. But with Nagy and Patrick Mahomes, he could rediscover his form.

The Chiefs beat writer for The Athletic, Nate Taylor confirmed the rumors of interest in Mooney as well.

Regardless of who the Chiefs acquire in free agency, they will begin the 2024 campaign as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Currently, they have the second-best odds at +650 on FanDuel Sportsbook to win it all. Head over to FanDuel, claim your $200 sign-up bonus, and back the Chiefs.
