Chiefs Officially Re-Sign Two Exclusive Rights Free Agents
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs officially re-signed a pair of exclusive rights free agents on Tuesday, keeping OL Mike Caliendo and S Nazeeh Johnson with Kansas City as the team hopes to win a third straight Super Bowl.
Caliendo doesn't see the field much, though Johnson is expected to be a big part of the Chiefs' secondary given the departure of L'Jarius Sneed.
This isn't a shocking move by any means, but it's still good to see Brett Veach keep the core intact.
Chiefs News: KC Re-Signs OL Mike Caliendo and S Nazeeh Johnson
Exclusive rights free agents are players who are pending free agents but have accrued two or fewer seasons in the NFL. They differ from restricted and unrestricted free agents, as this designation is typically for players who were drafted late and haven't been in the league very long.
Caliendo and Johnson are both young, though they've made a positive impact on the locker room and are regarded highly by their teammates.
Essentially everyone from last year's team except for Sneed is back next year, giving the Chiefs a rare level of continuity as the dynasty marches on.
We'll see what kind of impact the two make in the 2024-25 season, though I'm particularly excited to see what Johnson can do.
