Chiefs News: TE Travis Kelce Ruled OUT vs. Chargers
By Joe Summers
Travis Kelce's 1,000-yard streak is officially over.
The Chiefs just announced the superstar tight end is out today against the Chargers due to a coach's decision, ending his season just 16 yards shy of 1,000 receiving yards.
After it looked all week like Kelce would get a couple of drives, Andy Reid decided to prioritize Kelce's health, ensuring he'll be ready to roll for the playoffs.
TE Travis Kelce Ruled OUT For Chiefs vs. Chargers
Kelce finishes the season with 93 catches for 984 yards and five TDs. It's the first time since 2015 that Kelce didn't reach 1,000 yards, ending one of the most impressive streaks we've ever seen.
While it's disappointing that Kelce won't get the chance to continue history, Chiefs Kingdom knows how incredible he's been his entire career, whether the stats say 1,000 yards or just 986.
Promising rookie tight end Sam LaPorta of the Lions was carted off the field in the early slate Sunday with a knee injury. Some are questioning the logic of LaPorta playing at all today, and Reid wasn't willing to take that kind of risk.
Now, Kelce gets some much-needed rest and can focus on winning a third Super Bowl championship.
Patrick Mahomes, Rashee Rice, Kadarius Toney, Donovan Smith, L'Jarius Sneed, and Mike Danna have also been ruled out.
