The Kansas City Chiefs hope to continue their winning streak and head into their bye week with a perfect record as they take on the New Orleans Saints on Monday. They received a devastating injury update from Rashee Rice who will be out for the foreseeable future.

Considering that Hollywood Brown was already ruled out for the season, there has been an expectation that the Chiefs would either sign or trade for another pass-catcher. Mecole Hardman's injury further exacerbated this need. The veteran receiver is questionable to play in Week 5.

At the bare minimum, Chiefs fans assumed there would be a wide receiver elevated to the active roster. Surprisingly, however, the team chose to add tight end Jody Fortson to the 53-man roster, according to Chiefs insider Pete Sweeney.

This is surprising since the Chiefs already have three tight ends on the active roster Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, and Jared Wiley. This suggests we might see more two tight-end sets against the Saints while the team deals with a WR crisis.

The Chiefs will likely start Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, and JuJu Smith-Schuster on Monday. Skyy Moore, much to the chagrin of the Chiefs fanbase, will presumably see a larger workload as well.

Fortson is familiar with the Chiefs' system, appearing in 19 games since he signed in Kansas City as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He signed with the Dolphins in the 2024 offseason but was released before the roster cutdown deadline. He was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad on September 26.
