The Chiefs officially ruled star LG Joe Thuney out of the Super Bowl, confirming what was expected but still delivering a blow to Kansas City's offense.

Thuney suffered a torn left pectoral muscle in the AFC Divisional Round against Buffalo, though there was a small amount of optimism he may be able to suit up for Sunday to take on San Francisco.

His absence means Nick Allegretti will start at left guard, just as he did in that AFC Title game, during which he performed admirably.

In a somewhat surprising development given the news earlier this week, RB Jerick McKinnon is still questionable and has not yet been ruled out.

We'll likely get the final injury report Saturday or early Sunday with actives and inactives, though there remains an outside chance that McKinnon will play after missing significant time.

While Thuney's absence gives the offense a disadvantage, a potential McKinnon return could provide a somewhat offsetting benefit, particularly given how well fifth-year veteran Nick Allegretti played against Baltimore.

It remains to be seen who will play, but we'll keep you updated with any further updates over the weekend.
