Chiefs Injury News: RB Jerick McKinnon Out for Playoffs Following Surgery
By Joe Summers
Jerick McKinnon was one of the heroes of the 2022-23 postseason for the Chiefs and fans have clamored for more involvement this year with Kansas City's offense struggling.
Unfortunately, McKinnon is expected to miss the entire playoff run after surgery to repair a core muscle injury.
It's unclear if McKinnon will be with the Chiefs next season, though we know he's done in 2023-24.
Chiefs' RB Jerick McKinnon Out for Postseason
McKinnon is not under contract next season, so it's possible his Chiefs' career is over. I certainly hope not, given his value as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, but it's well within the realm of possibility.
He finishes the 2023 season with 21 carries for 60 yards and one TD with 25 catches for 192 yards and another four TDs through the air.
Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire will lead Kansas City's backfield throughout the playoffs. Given the relatively underwhelming season for McKinnon, I'm optimistic about his potential future with the Chiefs.
We'll see what comes of the offseason negotiations, but McKinnon will always be a Kansas City legend even if his playing days here are over.
