Chiefs Injury News: RB Jerick McKinnon Expected to Play in Super Bowl vs. 49ers
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs got a big boost offensively Sunday afternoon when it was reported that RB Jerick McKinnon would in fact play in the Super Bowl against the 49ers.
It initially looked like an uphill battle, but the 32-year-old pass-catching back pushed hard throughout the week to participate in what could be his final game with Kansas City.
After scoring five TDs during the regular season despite battling injuries, there's a good chance McKinnon makes a difference this evening.
Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon Expected to Play in Super Bowl 58
McKinnon hasn't played since December 17th against the Patriots after landing on the Injured Reserve list, though he's rehabbed and was activated from IR earlier this week.
Last season, McKinnon had 49 total yards in the Super Bowl win over the Eagles. His pass-blocking ability and versatility out of the backfield gives the Chiefs another dependable offensive weapon for a unit devoid of much depth.
In 2022, the former 49er scored 10 TDs and serves as the perfect compliment to Isiah Pacheco's running style.
We'll see what kind of impact he makes today, but I'm thrilled that McKinnon will get to play in the Super Bowl against his former team. Perhaps we'll see a revenge game in store?
