Chiefs general manager Brett Veach spoke to the media on Thursday and shared a positive Marquise "Hollywood" Brown injury update with a Week 1 showdown against the Baltimore Ravens officially under a week away.

Kansas City's marquee offseason offensive addition suffered a shoulder injury in the first preseason game and will miss Week 1. However, Veach sounded optimistic that Brown's recovery wouldn't cause him to miss a significant amount of time.

He compared the injury to Tyreek Hill's in 2019 that caused Hill to miss four games. Veach pointed out that the Chiefs didn't place Brown on the injured reserve list for a reason, indicating he'll miss less than the four games that would be required if he was on the list.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach Shares Encouraging Hollywood Brown Injury Update

"I don’t like talking about medical because if I say something and he’s ahead of that timeline or behind that timeline then I don’t want to put any more pressure on the kid," Veach said when asked about Brown's recovery. "I probably can confidently say it was similar to Tyreek, and I think given that timeline I think it falls within the timeline that Tyreek went through, but I know he’s here every day. He’s to the point now where he can laugh without pain, so that’s a good thing."

Laughing without pain is a step in the right direction but it's hardly as intense as playing in an NFL football game. Nonetheless, Veach seems to think this will be a quick recovery process.

"He’s certainly trending in the right direction," Veach continued. "Look, there was a reason why we didn’t put him on the IR to start the season."

The Chiefs host the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 before traveling to Atlanta to face the Falcons in Week 3. A divisional matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers waits in Week 4. Based on Veach's comments and the nature of the injury, Chiefs fans should expect to see Brown in action for the first time either in Weeks 3 or 4.

This is a team trying to be as healthy as possible for the playoffs, so using caution with Brown is wise. Even still, the difficult start to the schedule may incentivize the coaching staff to get him back on the field as soon as possible.
