Raise your hand if you thought the Chiefs' offense would heavily depend on the health of Justin Watson.

Here we are, and Kansas City got great news today after the deep-threat suffered an elbow injury in the Week 6 win over the Denver Broncos.

While initial reports suggested that Watson dislocated his elbow and may need a stint on the Injured Reserve, Andy Reid assuaged concerns in his media availability today ahead of Week 7 vs. the Chargers.

Justin Watson Elbow Injury Status Update

This is marvelous news. Avoiding an IR trip means Watson will likely return within four weeks, giving Patrick Mahomes a trusted target back before the schedule gets tougher starting with a Week 9 trip to Germany to face the Dolphins.

Watson has 10 catches for 219 yards this year to trail only rookie Rashee Rice in yards for the receivers. He's routinely made critical plays down the field, most notably his incredible third-and-long catch on the first drive of the second half against Minnesota.

With the other receivers' struggles, a clean bill of health for Watson would be welcome news to Mahomes and the Chiefs. If his injury is indeed just a contusion, he'll be back on the field sooner than expected.

I don't anticipate that Watson plays this Sunday, but he could be back for a Week 8 tilt against Denver. Fingers crossed he's able to stay healthy, as it appears the Chiefs need him more for a deep playoff run than any fan anticipated entering the season.
