The Chiefs could wind up with an additional pair of 2025 picks in the NFL Draft, thanks to the league's compensatory formula.

Compensatory picks are given to teams to offset free agency losses, and the Chiefs saw both Mike Edwards and Willie Gay Jr. sign with other teams. The latter, in particular, could net Kansas City compensation.

Lance Zierlen of NFL.com projects the Chiefs will get two seventh-round selections, though they ultimately depend on playing time from Edwards and Gay Jr.

Chiefs Could Get Two Extra Seventh-Round Picks in 2025

Kansas City already has eight picks in 2025. They picked up an extra third and seventh-round selection via trades, so tacking on two more sevenths from the compensatory formula would give Brett Veach a whopping four picks in that round.

We've seen him find excellent value late in drafts before, notably taking Isiah Pacheco in the seventh round of the 2022 draft.

Those picks could also be used in trade-up scenarios, which Veach has used to his advantage in the past. Even just this year, the Chiefs traded up in both the first and second rounds to draft Xavier Worthy and Kingsley Suamataia, respectively.

There is a long ways to go until we find out if Kansas City receives those compensatory picks, though the Chiefs are obviously in an enviable position. The organization boasts one of the NFL's most talented and youngest rosters with a knack for finding talent in the draft, so every pick counts even if it's in the seventh round.

Fingers crossed that Edwards and Gay Jr. both wind up starters with productive seasons in 2024-25.
