The biggest question for the Chiefs in Week 3, assuming Kareem Hunt doesn't make his triumphant return, is who will start at left tackle. Rookie second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia struggled against Trey Hendrickson and the Bengals in Week 2, leaving the door open for Wanya Morris to step in against the Falcons.

Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy spoke to the media on Thursday and said that the coaching staff still hasn't decided who will start, though head coach Andy Reid will make the final call.

Considering Suamataia was thought to be the long-term solution at the position, it's a bad sign that Reid already might bench him. Suamataia did sit for seven plays late against Cincinnati, though not starting the following week would be an entirely new development.

Matt Nagy Says Starting Left Tackle Still Undecided

Through his first two games, Suamataia has three penalties and two sacks surrendered. It'll take time for him to develop, but the Chiefs may not have the luxury of patience given the importance of each game.

Atlanta's defensive front has been impressive, and Suamataia may need more seasoning before he's ready to take on the better pass-rushers in the NFL. His potential remains sky-high and the organization believes in him, yet the coaches have to do what's best week by week.

Keeping Patrick Mahomes healthy and upright is the single most important thing. If Suamataia can't protect his blindside, it puts the three-time Super Bowl MVP at risk.

In all likelihood, Suamataia will start and this is just an opportunity for him to improve going into Week 3. It's a wake-up call for the former BYU star, and the team still has confidence in him moving forward.

Morris has experience in the scheme and started four games down the stretch in 2023. He's meant to be the primary backup and swing tackle, though it sounds like the Chiefs may need him sooner than expected this year.
