The Kansas City Chiefs had to make some tough decisions on Tuesday before finalizing their 53-man roster for the new season. One of those was having to cut veteran safety Deon Bush.

Only a day after releasing him, however, the Chiefs are bringing him back to the practice squad, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

NFL News: Chiefs Sign Recently Released S Deon Bush to Practice Squad

The 31-year-old defender had a huge interception against Lamar Jackson in the AFC Championship game to seal the win last year despite playing only three snaps. Bush only played 71 and 74 defensive snaps respectively in each of his two Chiefs seasons, being used more as a special teamer. He will have a chance to be a part of the historic three-peat attempt next season.

The Chiefs are starting the season with four safeties on the roster. Justin Reid is back at practice after suffering a quad injury in the preseason. Bryan Cook and Reid will be the starters in Week 1 with rookies Jaden Hicks and Chris Roland-Wallace as the backups. Roland-Wallace, the undrafted free agent who switched from cornerback to safety in the preseason, was a surprise inclusion on the final roster.

Even though Bush losing the competition to two rookies was surprising, it makes sense for the Chiefs to bring back the veteran with postseason experience. Tyree Gillespie and DJ Miller were other options at safety but they will be looking to get on a practice squad elsewhere.

Bush can be called up to play in Week 1 against the Ravens and the Chiefs can avoid guaranteeing his salary for the season if they sign him to the active roster after the opener. Whether that will be the case remains to be seen.
