The Chiefs added a veteran defensive lineman to the practice squad Thursday afternoon, signing Isaiah Buggs after he was released by the Lions earlier this week.

Buggs spent three years with the Steelers before joining the Lions, appearing in 10 games this season. He started three games for the Lions, recording a sack in a win over Packers.

He'll serve as a depth piece in case of emergency, but shows Brett Veach's willingness to bolster the roster before the playoffs.

The former sixth-round pick played college football for Alabama and has plenty of experience. In addition to his appearances with Detroit this year, he started 13 games for the Lions last season.

Kansas City has a long injury report, emphasizing the need for reliable bodies just in case. Just last season we saw Patrick Mahomes suffer an injury and while that worked out fine, the Chiefs need to be prepared.

It appears likely Andy Reid will rest most of the starters in Week 18 against the Chargers, though perhaps we'll see Buggs make an impact in the playoffs.

He's a capable run stopper and helped turn the Lions' defense around late in the year in 2022, and Dan Campbell admitted it was tough to let him go. Perhaps it'll be for the best and Buggs can snag himself a ring for his trouble.
