Chiefs' safety Bryan Cook suffered what appeared to be a gruesome ankle injury on Sunday Night Football against the Packers, but initial reports indicate his injury was not as bad as initially feared.

We've yet to hear a diagnosis on the 2022 second-round pick's official injury is, though x-rays show that he did not break his ankle.

Chiefs Injury News: Bryan Cook Did Not Break Ankle

This is a huge relief for Cook and the Chiefs' defense as a whole. With injuries to Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill and others throughout the year, Kansas City can't afford to have more key contributors go down.

Cook had a season-high seven tackles prior to suffering the injury and has become one of the defense's most exciting young players. He's got 42 tackles with an interception and fumble recovery on the year and was expected to be one of the most important players on the defense for the stretch run.

Kansas City hosts Buffalo's explosive offense in Week 14. It's unlikely Cook will play in that game, though the Chiefs hope he'll return sooner than later as the team tries to climb back atop the AFC.

For now, we're just grateful Cook seemingly avoided a major injury.
