The Chiefs got bad injury news with just 90 minutes until kick-off in the AFC Championship game as Willie Gay Jr. is trending towards not playing following an injury suffered last week.

Gay Jr. was expected to play and serve as a spy to contain Lamar Jackson, but now the Chiefs will have to get creative to minimize Jackson's incredible rushing ability.

There's no sugar coating this news: it's a bad update for Chiefs Kingdom.

Chiefs Injury News: Willie Gay Jr. Unlikely to Play vs. Ravens

It was initially reported this morning that Gay Jr. was expected to play, though he's apparently experienced a setback that puts his status in doubt.

He's the team's best linebacker at spying rushing quarterbacks, and Josh Allen found success on the ground once Gay Jr. went out in the Divisional Round win. Without him in the lineup, the Chiefs will need Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill and Leo Chenal to step up and limit Jackson.

Allen finished with 12 carries for 72 yards and a pair of TDs last week. If Jackson has similar numbers, it's hard to imagine the Chiefs escaping with a victory.

Here's hoping we see a breakout game from one of Kansas City's linebackers, otherwise Patrick Mahomes will need to put on his Superman cape to get the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl.
