Chiefs 7-Round NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Solidifying the Dynasty
By Joe Summers
3. Christian Mahogany - OG, Boston College (Pick 95)
I wanted to go defense here, though the Chiefs have invested heavily at the top of the draft in recent years on that side of the ball and it's hard to pass up on a player with Christian Mahogany's potential.
The 6'3", 314 LB was a three-year starter at Boston College and plays with a tenacious mean streak. He'll remind Chiefs Kingdom of Trey Smith, which is critical given the latter is a free agent next season. It feels unlikely that Kansas City can keep both Smith and Creed Humphrey, so I see Mahogany as a potential Smith replacement long-term.
Mahogany does need to improve his technique and footwork after succeeding using his sheer strength and physicality. That's why drafting him here makes sense for the Chiefs, as he'll have time to learn the finer points of the position while developing behind two of the NFL's best guards in Smith and Joe Thuney.
His bruising mentality and fierce work ethic give Mahogany the chance to turn into a multi-year, quality starter on the offensive line.
Getting to learn in an organization like the Chiefs, known for excellent offensive line coaching, makes this a perfect fit in the third round.
