All eyes are focused on the 2024 season as teams start heading back to the facilities with OTAs kicking off around the league.

The Chiefs' OTAs started on May 20 and this gives some players an opportunity to impress the coaching staff before mandatory minicamps begin in June.

The media had a chance to watch practice on May 22 and there were some players who stood out. One specific player is giving himself a chance to compete for a roster spot after a strong practice.

Chiefs News: Montrell Washington Had a Great Practice on May 22

Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen for the Chiefs was present at practice and pointed out that WR Montrell Washington had a great day, reeling in multiple deep catches.

Washington was able to get more reps as Xavier Worthy and Kadarius Toney were both absent from practice on May 22. Kansas City made it their mission to revamp this WR core after they led the league in drops (44) during the regular season in 2023.

They added Marquise Brown in free agency and the aforementioned Worthy through the NFL Draft but they still could use more reinforcements.

Rashee Rice has constantly been in the news cycle this offseason and is likely going to face a suspension after being charged with aggravated assault and collision involving serious bodily injury after a car accident down in Dallas in April.

That leaves room for Washington to come in and make a name for himself. He was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He's bounced around on Denver's and Kansas City's practice squad over the past couple of years.

During his collegiate career at Samford, he was known for being a shifty but quick pass catcher who can also impact the game as a punt/kickoff returner.

From 2018-2021 at Samford, he notched 129 receptions for 1,686 receiving yards and 16 receiving scores. He also logged 1,046 kick return yards and 746 punt return yards.

At his Pro Day, he ran a 4.48 40-yard dash with a 1.6-second 10-yard split, showing his speed and agility.

If Washington continues to impress, he will have a chance to compete and potentially stick onto the roster.
