Brett Veach Reveals Issue That Led to Kadarius Toney's Release
By Jovan Alford
The Kansas City Chiefs shockingly parted ways with wide receiver Kadarius Toney after weeks of speculation that he could be on the roster bubble in training camp. Toney’s short stint with the Chiefs came with a lot of ups and downs.
The former first-round pick gave the Chiefs’ offense another exciting playmaker in 2022 when the team traded for him from the New York Giants. Toney had 14 receptions (17 targets) for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
The young receiver also made a couple of huge plays in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles. At that time, things looked up on Toney, who was creating a niche in the Chiefs’ offense.

However, things went downhill in 2023 for Toney as he had notable miscues on the field and was listed as inactive for the final three regular-season games and the four playoff contests.
On Wednesday, Kansas City general manager Brett Veach was asked why things didn’t pan out with Toney. Veach said it was the “little things” in the offseason to get the player’s body right, per Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com.
Veach’s response leaves a lot up to interpretation, but most Kansas City fans on social media highlighted offseason workouts and minicamp.
Also, this is a stark contrast to what Veach said earlier this year when he stated that Toney is probably the Chiefs' “most talented wideout” and it's a matter of him staying healthy.
Nonetheless, the Chiefs likely wanted things to work with Toney, but they are ready to move on with the other young receivers on the market. As for Toney, he’ll try to latch on to his third team to start his NFL career.
