Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Breeland Speaks is getting another NFL shot with the preseason set to kick off across the league this weekend.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2, the Jacksonville Jaguars are signing the former Chiefs’ second-round pick on Thursday. Coincidentally, the Jaguars and Chiefs are scheduled to play each other this weekend.

However, with it being late in the week, it would be shocking to see Speaks play against his former team.

Speaks wrapped up his second season playing spring football with the Michigan Panthers. The former Chiefs’ draft pick had an outstanding 2024 season in the UFL, producing 33 combined tackles and 9.5 sacks.

Speaks was rewarded for his play on the gridiron by being named All-UFL and winning UFL Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts. The 6-foot-3 defensive lineman was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by Kansas City.

Speaks didn’t make a noticeable impact with the Chiefs as he only started in four of 16 games in his rookie season. The former Ole Miss defensive lineman produced 24 combined tackles, eight quarterback hits, and 1.5 sacks.

After his rookie season in Kansas City, Speaks suffered a preseason injury the next season, and was then suspended by the NFL for substance abuse in Dec. 2019. Kansas City waived Speaks in Sept. 2020 and he would bounce around the league, signing with multiple teams.

Last summer, the former Chiefs defensive lineman was signed by the San Francisco 49ers but was waived two weeks later.
