Andy Reid Makes Patrick Mahomes Announcement for Week 18
By Joe Summers
It's felt unlikely all week that Patrick Mahomes would play against the Chargers on Week 18, and now we officially have our answer.
Andy Reid told media Wednesday that Mahomes will sit on Sunday and former Missouri Tiger Blaine Gabbert will start in his place.
Mahomes isn't the only notable player we saw an update on, though. Check out what Reid said below.
Chiefs News: Patrick Mahomes Will Not Play vs. Chargers
Mahomes will finish the season with 4,183 passing yards while completing a career-high 67.2% of his passes with 27 TDs to 14 interceptions. He added a career-best 389 rushing yards as well.
This is a great opportunity for Gabbert and a wise move from Reid, given we saw Chad Henne play a critical role in the playoffs last season.
We don't have an update on Travis Kelce yet, though it appears several other key players will rest as well.
Kansas City is locked into the No. 3 seed in the AFC Playoffs. There's nothing to gain or lose this week except health, so any player battling a nagging injury should heal up before the playoffs.
We'll see what other players ultimately sit, but for now, we know Mahomes is out.
