Andy Reid Comments on Possibly Resting Chiefs Starters in Week 18
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs are locked into the No. 3 seed in the AFC Playoffs after a resilient 25-17 win over the Bengals to eliminate their rival from the postseason.
There are fair questions about whether Andy Reid will play the starters next week, given the Chiefs' playoff positioning is locked in stone. After a long season, it may make sense to let everyone get a week of rest.
That being said, several players are close to statistical milestones. What will Andy Reid do?
Andy Reid Comments on Resting Chiefs Starters vs. Chargers
Reid won't yet commit to playing or resting certain players, though it feels like a virtual certainty that a majority of the starters won't play the whole game, at the least.
Travis Kelce needs just 16 yards for his eighth consecutive 1,000-yard season, a mark I'd bet Reid lets him get at least one drive to reach. Rashee Rice needs 62 yards for 1,000 receiving yards, while Isiah Pacheco needs 64 rushing yards for the same mark.
Considering the minimal historical significance of those two milestones relative to Kelce's, I'd be surprised if Reid leaves Rice or Pacheco in for very long.
We'll see what comes of the week's reports, but it's a blessing for this team that there's an opportunity for well-deserved rest to get healthy for another Super Bowl run.
