With the 2024 NFL preseason ending on Sunday night, many teams across the league will begin making cuts to their 90-man roster as they work to get down to 53 players by Tuesday’s deadline.

On Sunday morning, we saw a former Kansas City Chiefs pass-catcher get cut, who many fans will fondly remember.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Miami Dolphins have cut tight end Jody Fortson. The 28-year-old tight end joined the Dolphins this offseason after being placed on injured reserve by the Chiefs last summer.

Fortson didn’t make a lot of plays in the preseason with the Dolphins as he had two receptions (three targets) for 20 yards. In Miami’s preseason finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he recorded one reception (two targets) for eight yards.

The veteran tight end spent the entire 2023 season on injured reserve after seeing action with the Chiefs in 2022. During the 2022 campaign, the former Valdosta State standout had nine receptions (13 targets) for 108 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games.

Fortson has had a couple of injured reserve stints in his NFL career, including in 2021 after he tore his Achilles. That said, it’s good to see him back on the field and getting the opportunity to compete for a roster.

Even though it didn’t work out in Miami, Fortson had a chance to find a new opportunity with a different team since he was released two days before the deadline. Kansas City fans shouldn’t expect a reunion as the team is stacked at tight end and has their own roster decisions to figure out before Tuesday.
