Once the celebrations die down and we've had our fun, all eyes will be on Chris Jones as Brett Veach reopens negotiations with the star defensive leader who had another exceptional season and playoff effort.

We've long thought that Jones would not be back next season given the gigantic contract his on-field play and off-field leadership warrants, but it's starting to feel more possible that Jones returns as the Chiefs try to become the first NFL team ever to win three straight Super Bowls.

In fact, ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter believes that Jones will indeed be with Kansas City for the 2024-25 season.

Chiefs Free Agency: Adam Schefter Predicts Chris Jones Will Return

We know all about the contentious contract negotiation that resulted in Jones missing the Week 1 loss to the Lions, though the incentive structure has changed a bit now that Kansas City can make history.

According to Schefter, "You can see the way that he and Andy Reid were acting after the game. I don't think he's going to want to leave unless there's some huge difference in offers between Kansas City and somewhere else. And the Chiefs value him, they want him back. To me, yeah they're going to run it back with a lot of this team intact."

It's worth noting, as well, that defensive line coach Joe Cullen agreed to a contract extension prior to the Super Bowl. Jones' coaching staff is intact, it's the youngest defense in the NFL, and the offense should be better next year accounting for upgrades in the wide receiver room.

Still at the height of his powers, Chris Jones can cement his legendary status with another excellent season.

It would certainly require some intensive salary cap work from Brett Veach, but it at least now looks possible, if not probable, that Jones will still be in Chiefs red when the new season gets underway.
