6 Players Chiefs Will Regret Leaving Off 53-Man Roster
4. Justyn Ross, wide receiver
Losing a player like Justyn Ross and watching him go succeed with another NFL team would likely send Kansas City Chiefs fans into orbit.
Ross was once thought to be the next potential first-round prospect at wide receiver out of Clemson where they had been cranking out top-flight NFL-caliber receivers for so many years. We saw Ross come up big with the Tigers as a Freshman, but injuries threatened to completely end his football-playing career.
After his comeback to the football field, the Chiefs managed to get Ross as an undrafted free agent and he has consistently showed his potential in the offseason. There are very few players around the league who seem to make as much annual noise at training camp as Justyn Ross, and we saw more of that again this year.
Heck, he even made a big play in the preseason as well, it just wasn't enough to make a Chiefs roster that is starved for consistent options at the receiver position. Ross's inability to make Kansas City's roster has probably reached a point now where they just simply have to let him try to make it in another NFL city.
If it wasn't in the cards in Kansas City this offseason, it's probably not in the cards at all. The Chiefs have to be bracing for a potential Rashee Rice suspension. They moved on from Kadarius Toney. Skyy Moore has underwhelmed. They cut a bunch of other back-end-of-the-roster types of receivers. The opportunity for Ross was served up on a silver platter, and it just didn't happen.
It's definitely time for these two sides to move on, but if Ross goes elsewhere and finds success in the regular season, Chiefs fans are probably going to be furious.
