2. Kelvin Joseph, cornerback

If there's one position in the NFL where you can never have too many good players, it's the cornerback position. The Kansas City Chiefs are taking on some big changes at cornerback this offseason after trading away L'Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans.

Even with Trent McDuffie expected to take on a bigger role this year leadership-wise, who is going to be playing along with him in the defensive backfield, specifically at the cornerback position?

Well, after the Chiefs decided to release former Cowboys 2nd-round pick Kelvin Joseph, we might have at least a little bit clearer of an idea. Part of McDuffie's same draft class back in 2022 included a number of other defensive backs, and all of them have been vying for playing time this offseason.

Nazeeh Johnson, Joshua Williams, and Jaylen Watson are all in line for extensive snaps this season, potentially, and at this point, your guess is as good as mine as to which players are going to be taking on the lion's share of the snaps left behind by Trent McDuffie.

The Chiefs know they have an absolute stud at one of the cornerback spots locked up with McDuffie, but with question marks behind him on the depth chart, keeping an upside play around like Kelvin Joseph could have been beneficial. He showed out at times during the offseason and preseason, and obviously has the 2nd-round NFL Draft pedigree. The Chiefs are banking on the guys they've drafted in-house picking up the slack, and there's nothing wrong with that, but Joseph has the ability to play the slot as well as on the outside and could have developed well in Steve Spagnuolo's system.
