6 Free Agents the Chiefs Should Sign Before Mandatory Minicamp

2. Logan Thomas, Tight End
Kansas City has the luxury of turning to one of the best tight ends in the NFL in Travis Kelce. Even when they struggled due to a lack of wideouts in 2023, Kelce was able to keep the offense moving. Having said that, it was his least productive season since 2015.
Kelce had more than 1,000 yards in each of the past seven seasons before ending up with 984 in 15 games. That's not to say he needs to be replaced but he turns 35 in October and might need a little more help to get through the entire campaign.
Noah Gray is currently the No. 2 tight end and he's been a solid option in the passing game. Gray has improved on his production in each of his three seasons, going for 305 yards and two touchdowns on 28 receptions last year. He should be able to handle even more, but bringing in one more option might be more beneficial.
If they wanted to do so, Logan Thomas would be a good fit.
A former quarterback at Virginia Tech, Thomas was a backup QB for the Arizona Cardinals in 2014. He bounced around the league before the Detroit Lions converted him to tight end. He had two stints with them and one with Buffalo before breaking out in 2020 with Washington.
Thomas is sitting in free agency after putting up 1,685 yards and 14 touchdowns on 184 receptions over the past four years for the Commanders. Last year, he had 496 yards and four touchdowns and while he averaged just 9.0 yards per catch, his 6-foot-6, 250-pound frame and soft hands make him an ideal red zone target.
