2. Ian Book, QB

Ian Book had an impressive career for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was a three-year starter who put up 8,948 yards with 72 touchdowns and just 20 interceptions. He was dangerous with his legs as well, racking up 1,517 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground during his time in South Bend.

That was enough to get him selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Head coach Sean Payton believed he could be a future starter but he gave up on him quickly. Book had to start as a rookie when Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian were out due to COVID-19. Book was 12-of-20 for 135 yards with two picks in the loss to Miami and was let go in the offseason.

He spent one year with the Philadelphia Eagles and then about one week with the New England Patriots in 2023. He signed a futures contract with the Chiefs in January but there doesn't seem to be a clear path to the roster.

Kansas City currently has Carson Wentz as the No. 2 quarterback behind Patrick Mahomes. Wentz might not be the player he once was but he's a very good backup. Third on the depth chart is Chris Oladokun, a Pittsburgh Steelers sixth-round selection from 2022 who didn't make the team and has been in Kansas City for the past two seasons. His familiarity with the team gives him the edge over Book.

The Chiefs will likely go with just two quarterbacks on the active roster and Book might not be there for long.
