6 Chiefs on the Roster Bubble Heading Into Preseason Finale

1. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Running Back
Clyde Edwards-Helaire was supposed to be the answer at running back for Kansas City. Taken in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the LSU product was a capable player as a runner and pass-catcher out of the backfield. He was a huge part of the Tigers' title run and should have helped the Chiefs offense take their next step. Just imagine a dominant runner capable of taking some of the pressure off of Patrick Mahomes.
As a rookie, he did well with 803 yards rushing and 297 through the air for a total of 1,100 yards from scrimmage. He managed this in just 13 games but unfortunately, missed time was the norm for him for the first three seasons.
Edwards-Helaire missed 17 games in his first three seasons and was surpassed by Isiah Pacheco in 2022. Pacheco remains the starter now and it seemed as though Edwards-Helaire would be gone in free agency. He ended up returning when there were no substantial offers and without much depth added outside of Carson Steele and former rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit, it appeared Edwards-Helaire would be RB2 once again.
That no longer holds true.
Deneric Prince has been fantastic throughout camp and ran for 47 yards on seven attempts this weekend. That includes a 41-yarder that showed us all why the coaching staff is excited to see what he can do with more opportunities.
That's bad news for Edwards-Helaire, who could wind up being let go in favor of younger talent the Chiefs believe they can develop.
