3. Christian Roland-Wallace, Safety

After playing cornerback and safety for four seasons at Arizona, Christian Roland-Wallace transferred to USC for the final season of his collegiate career. He stayed at corner and had 37 tackles, nine pass defenses, and two picks for the Trojans. Combined between the two teams, he finished his time in the NCAA with 206 tackles, four picks, and 26 pass defenses.

He was then undrafted but signed with the Chiefs in free agency. He's been used primarily at safety and has put up some solid performances in the preseason.

Against the Jaguars, he was tied for second on the team with four tackles, including one for a loss. Then against Detroit, he was the leading tackler with nine. He proved to be able to locate the ball and isn't afraid of contact.

The problem is that players who typically lead the team in preseason stats are the ones often fighting for a job. That's the case for Roland-Wallace. However, the good news for him is that he has an outside shot of making it since the depth in Kansas City isn't too impressive at safety.

Justin Reid and Bryan Cook are the starters but behind them are Jaden Hicks (a fourth-round rookie) and Deon Bush. From there, Roland-Wallace, D.J. Miller, and Tyree Gillespie are fighting to earn a fifth spot - assuming they go with five. That might not be the case with the versatility shown by Trent McDuffie and Ekow Boye-Doe who can each move around the defensive backfield.
