6 Chiefs Who Could Be Cut by the End of October
4. Peyton Hendershot, tight end
I know that Peyton Hendershot is technically on the practice squad right now, but he was also a trade acquisition by the Chiefs not too long ago.
The issue for Hendershot at this point is that the Chiefs have already determined he's someone they can live without. The Chiefs decided to cut Hendershot not long after acquiring him in the trade with the Dallas Cowboys, but they obviously think highly enough of him to have him on the practice squad.
He's played a handful of special teams snaps for the Chiefs this season, but you've got to ask if you're looking at Kansas City's tight end situation right now -- where are the snaps going to come from?
With Rashee Rice going down with an injury, you can bet that Travis Kelce's snaps aren't going to go down. In fact, probably the opposite. He's going to see an uptick in everything from snaps to targets. The Chiefs also have been able to rely a little bit more lately on Noah Gray, who has been a valuable secondary weapon for Patrick Mahomes in the passing game at times.
The Chiefs are also getting good contributions from rookie Jared Wiley, who has played 49 total offensive snaps this season and has done some nice work as a blocker.
Where does that leave Hendershot? The Chiefs, like every NFL team, need depth at every position, but unless they are protecting Hendershot each week, teams that are in need of tight end help around the league are probably going to come sniffing around sooner rather than later. The Chiefs could cut Hendershot at some point in October if it's clear there's no path to the field for him in KC.
