Everyone knows that October is spooky season and the roster Grim Reaper doesn't take months off in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0 and on top of the AFC West by a relatively comfortable two games already after the month of September, but this team is not going to be immune from roster shuffling as the season goes along.

The question is -- what players could realistically be on the chopping block this month?

The Chiefs could be looking to add players at the receiver position after Rashee Rice's potentially season-ending knee injury. They may need room on the roster for certain players coming off of injured reserve or other injury lists. They may need to call some guys up off the practice squad which could ultimately cost someone a 53-man roster spot.

Whatever the motivations might end up being, there are a number of players who could end up being cut by the Chiefs before the month of October is out. Let's take a look at some of the notable names.

6 Chiefs Who Could Be Cut in October

1. Samaje Perine, running back

This might seem a little far-fetched, but just hear me out on this one for a moment...

The Kansas City Chiefs picked up Samaje Perine after he was cut by the Denver Broncos before the start of the 2024 season. It was an understandable pickup for the Chiefs at the time given the uncertainty they have at the running back position, but Perine might not make much sense for the roster as much going forward for this team.

Isiah Pacheco is still recovering and will need time to heal from his fractured right fibula, and his availability this season might not be anything they can really bank on.

But the Chiefs obviously really like Carson Steele despite some fumbling issues to start the season, and they also just got Kareem Hunt back in the mix. Hunt actually played quite well on the 28 snaps he got in his return to the Chiefs, and Perine got just 25 snaps this past weekend and significantly fewer touches.

With Clyde Edwards-Helaire also set to return at some point in the near future, the Chiefs may not have room on their roster to carry all of these backs and Perine may be redundant with the other guys they have. He could be an October cut candidate for sure.
