5 Most Likely Chiefs Inactives for Week 1 vs. Ravens

These Chiefs made the 53-man roster, but that doesn't mean they'll be active on game day to start the season.

4. C.J. Hanson, OL

The Chiefs' depth chart gets really messy when you look at the backups on the interior offensive line. This really highlights the versatility of each of these players, but also can make things tricky to project.

C.J. Hanson is listed as the No. 2 right guard and No. 3 left guard. Hunter Nourzad is the No. 2 center and No. 3 right guard. Mike Caliendo is the No. 2 left guard and No. 3 center.

The versatility and overlap here means that one of these three will probably be inactive. They'll keep at least one player who can back up Creed Humphrey at center, which means Nourzad or Caliendo, but the other spot is up for grabs.

Ultimately, I expect it to be both of the guys listed at center who get the nod, with Hanson as the odd man out.

The seventh-round pick didn't look like he's ready to play at the NFL level yet in the preseason, earning just a 55.7 overall grade from PFF. Most concerningly, he graded out at just 39.3 in pass protection.

He managed to avoid landing on the practice squad, but don't expect Hanson to be active unless injuries leave KC thin up front.

5. Christian Roland-Wallace, Defensive Back

With nine defensive backs on the 53-man roster, expect at least one inactive between the Chiefs' cornerback and safety rooms.

Roland-Wallace made the roster as an undrafted free agent, but that doesn't mean he's going to be active much this season, and it's a situation we see all the time in the NFL.

Sending a rookie to the practice squad during roster cutdowns at the end of training camp requires waiving them, giving the opportunity for other teams to swoop in and steal them. So if a team doesn't want to risk losing their promising rookie, they're forced to keep them on the 53-man roster.

Roland-Wallace still needs more time to develop though, and for practical purposes, he may end up playing a similar number of games as he would have if he did land on the practice squad.
